International Overdose Awareness Day
August 31, 2025
August is Overdose Awareness Month—a time to honor lives lost, raise awareness about the dangers of drug overdose, and fight the stigma surrounding substance-related deaths. This message hits close to home: in 2021, Greene County ranked #1 in overdose fatalities among 57 upstate NY counties, with Columbia County at #22.
Thanks to harm reduction efforts and expanded access to resources, overdose deaths have declined since then—but the work is far from over. We must continue to act, educate, and support our communities to prevent further loss and build a healthier future.

Parents, caregivers, and communities play a vital role in promoting safe driving habits and helping prevent these tragedies. Staying alert, sober, and focused behind the wheel can save lives.
